How about clearing the center coolant passage?

That rust on the heat shield looks as if it may only be a stain, as opposed to heat shield actually rusting.

Not sure if this is because of the Swain coating on my manifolds, but you may have to force the heat shields over the MSP manifolds. I strategically sliced small areas of the heat shield to relieve some of the interference.

You can see the cuts next to the dip stick and under the valve cover bracket in this pic.
